Sharing a snippet of a special conversation we had with Manmi Paula during our cacao ceremony at our POC Haiti Retreat last week.

🍫We sipped on warm natural cacao thickened with coconut milk and spiced with nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, brown sugar, and salt.

🍌We tried a new pink/ yellow banana (Bannann Makabi) that tasted like honey and, munched on starfruit grown in Manmi Paula’s yard.

🥜 Haitian Manmba (peanut butter 🥜) on toast was also available along with two different kinds of raw honey.

❤️‍🔥A plethora of treats and warmth to aid in our conversation on “what makes your heart grow vs break?”

Did you catch @shaelleetienne x @miaonlife live yesterday? Several times, you could hear gun shots in the background on Mia’s end (Port au Prince). This led the conversation to the topic of safety when traveling to Haiti and everywhere else in the world.

Is there any land where you can guarantee safety? Or a sense of safety?

After leading retreats in Bali, New Orleans, St Lucia etc, we certainly don’t think so. We’ve learned that injustices and terrible things are present everywhere in balance with the beautiful and supportive things. ☯️

We’ve also learned that you cannot guarantee “safe spaces” because you don’t know what triggers every individual. Rather “brave spaces” are what we’re really walking into because it takes courage to show up. Shoutout @sacred.alchemist 🙏🏾🙏🏿🙏🏽

It’s up to us to lean into our courage rather than our fear.

Why?

Both are contagious and spread like a wild fire. However, courage brings new perspective, fear destroys it all.

When we decided to focus the retreat on the root chakra, we had no idea how fitting and needed it would be for the attendees and teachers.
